New York , New York

The city that doesn't sleep - New York !

A very interesting fact is that in 2018 during our vacation in Alacati , Turkey there was a woman in the hotel reading Tarot cards and she told us that next year there will be some woman from the United States calling us : "Come , come !!! " / Gel ,gel in Turkish /. At that time back then we had no idea who that person can be and what the call is gonna be for .

But in the summer of 2019 we have been approached by a friend of our that lives in the states - Kremena Nickolova . As a matter of fact she was helping us in the very early days of our partnership as she was instructor in the studio where our dancing career began . We were all kids back then .Unfortunately she stopped competing very early at the age of 16 and now 30 years later , while living and working in New York , Kremena felt there was something missing and unfinished in her life and that was dancing . So she decided to go back to competitive dancing and compete in pro/am categories with a pro teacher . Have to say it's a beautiful story as we know more details about why she had to stop , how it made her feel and the burden she has been carrying all these years knowing her dream to dance was taken from her too early .

We truly believe one should always go after ones passions , no matter how unrealistic they may seem .

So when Kremena called us to ask if we could travel to New York to help her with the training, of course we were up fo this .

Kremena and her pro partner Ivan Loultchev have already done some competitions but felt like they needed to improve more if they want to be contenders for the top spots in their age group . The pro/am dancing in USA is very popular with hundreds of entires at each event and the level at some comps where the " top " couples gather is very good !

So we worked with them on choreography and with Kremena particularly on her technical skills and mental preparation - cause as we know it all starts in the head and we love to approach dancing in a holistic way with the body ,mind and soul working in perfect unison in order the full potential to be released .

Kremena works as a nurse , 8am to 8pm , and barely has days off ,so it was a challenge to find space ,time and energy to commit to training late at nights. But for the two weeks spent there we managed to finish all 5 dances !

With the training sessions starting after 9 pm all our days were free with plenty of time to explore and soak up the energy of the metropolis . Shopping , sightseeing , fine dinning , arts , entertainment ... New York has so much to offer that even people living there for more than 10 years haven't seen it all . If you have ever been to NY you know how it feels like - it's was not our first time in the Big Apple but every time it's different , so vibrant and dynamic .

Our relatively short stay was very productive - not only we managed to see so many things , caught up with friends we haven't see for years but the training paid off .

Kremena & Ivan won one golden and one silver medal at one of the biggest competitions on the East side - Empire Dance Championships organised by Allan Tornsberg and Vibeke Toft .

We had to go back home as there were new projects on the list but left with the feeling that it's a very promising beginning of a successful collaboration !

Till next time , New York !
